Description:
Mozart's Requiem is known to the general public in the version by his pupil Franz Xaver Süßmayr, which was completed immediately after Mozart's death. The attacks against Süßmayr's addition began in 1825, when the so-called "Requiem controversy" broke out. In recent times, several musicians have attempted to rectify the shortcomings of Süßmayr's version. The present version by Robert Levin attempts to take into account the tendencies of these newer versions (re-instrumentation, new composition of some passages). The aim was to imitate Mozart's character, texture, voice leading, progression and structure.
