Description:
The offertory in Festo Sti Benedicti "Scande coeli limina" K. 34, consisting of aria and chorus, is the oldest surviving smaller church music work by Mozart. According to Max Keller, the three-part aria with motivic relationships to the four-hand piano sonata K. 358 (186c) and the piano sonata K. 330 (300h), which betrays French influence, was composed for the feast of St. Benedict in the monastery of Seeon/Bavaria in 1766 on the return journey from Paris. The text was probably written by a monastic poet of the Baroque period.
