This is how the Parzen, the goddesses of fate in Greek and Roman mythology, sang: the Parzenlied in Goethe's verse drama "Iphigenia in Tauris", which became the model for Johannes Brahms, is about curse and fate. His "Gesang der Parzen" op. 89 describes the struggle to overcome the mythical curse through the purity of true, noble action and the power of hope in gripping, eruptive sounds. The approximately 12-minute work can be combined well in concert with Brahms' "Ein Deutsches Requiem" (Carus 27.055/00). / Thanks to the arrangement for chamber orchestra (arr. Urs Stäuble, Carus 10.400/50), the work can now also be performed by smaller ensembles.
