Joseph Haydn set the Ambrosian Canticle to music twice in the course of his life. The "Te Deum" for Empress Marie Therese was composed around 1800 and thus falls into his late creative phase. The large orchestral forces give the work, in which there are no soloists, a particularly magnificent sound, as is familiar from the choruses of Haydn's "Creation".
