When composing the cantata BWV 149, Bach drew on parts of an older work: the opening chorus is a parody of the hunting cantata BWV 208. In addition to minor changes to the text, he used trumpets instead of horns. To this end, he transposed the movement from F to C major. The three arias are very varied in terms of music and instrumentation. The bass aria (2nd movement) is characterized by a lively continuo accompaniment. After the subsequent secco recitative, an extended and dance-like soprano aria with string accompaniment unfolds. The third aria (movement 6) captivates with its moving melody and canon formation in the vocal parts, as well as the use of the bassoon as an instrumental counterpart to the duet between alto and tenor.
