Description:
Three Songs of Love was commissioned by the Exultate Singers and first performed at St George's Church, Bristol on 14 February 2015.The three texts (Clare, Yeats and McCrae) represent different moods of love: from the thrills of a very fresh love with the mini-deaths also contained within, to the not always conscious devotion to the loved one, to the distant memories that can befall one when returning to a familiar place. The flowery and expressive music sticks very closely to the texts and captivates with rich harmonies as well as skillful counterpoint alongside homophonic sections.The songs are certainly a bit of a challenge for intermediate level choirs, but will delight choir and audience alike.
