Claudio Monteverdi's "Vespro della Beata Vergine" is certainly one of the most popular sacred works of the 17th century. In addition to numerous recordings, it is performed again and again in whole or in part.
The Urtext edition of this well-known work breaks new ground. It was produced as part of a graduate seminar at the University of North Texas under the direction of Monteverdi specialist Hendrik Schulze. The result is an edition that combines scholarly-critical work with the pursuit of practical practicability.
This leads, for example, to a different evaluation of the "Lauda Jerusalem" based on performance practice with numerous additional accidentals and a new interpretation of melodic variants from the different partbooks. These new musical and performance-practical insights enable a modern interpretation of the 400-year-old work.
