Description:
Advent is a particularly quiet time of year. It gives us space for reflection and inner contemplation. It also teaches us to accept the darkness resulting from the long winter nights and to hope for the good. Advent lights (e.g. on the Advent wreath) are a symbol of the anticipation of the coming of the Lord. The lighting of the candles reminds us not to give in to the darkness, but to actively seek light and comfort in life. With his Advent song fantasy, in which the three well-known Advent songs "Morgenglanz der Ewigkeit", "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern" and "Was soll das bedeuten" are incorporated, the composer Florian Ziller invites us to a musical meditation. It begins with a radiantly solemn introduction in tutti based on the opening motif of "Was soll das bedeuten", before the first theme "Morgenglanz der Ewigkeit" is introduced. It is first introduced delicately in the woodwinds and then varied in the tenor horn/baritone in the form of a cantilena. "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern" is initially presented as a cheerful dance in the alla breve, only to be continued as a devotional chorale. Finally, "Was soll das bedeuten" is - analogous to the first song - also initially presented as chamber music (in alto saxophone and flugelhorn), before the introductory bars of the composition are taken up as a recapitulation and lead the work to a magnificent conclusion. With ADVENTSLICHT, Florian Ziller has enriched the wind orchestra repertoire for the Advent and Christmas season with an outstanding work. It will illuminate every concert in a particularly atmospheric way.
