Description:

  • Rubric: Flexible Instrumentation
  • Genre: Waltz
This short version of the Danube Waltz was commissioned by the Stadtkapelle Liezen - Kapellmeister David Luidold, Obmann Michael Fröhlich.
This "compact version" has the following sequence: Waltz 1 starts without an introduction. Immediately after waltz 1 follows a da capo, soon after a jump into a short coda.
The idea behind this short version is as follows: At annual concerts of music clubs, the youth wind orchestra is also allowed to perform one or two numbers from time to time. On the one hand, this is a way of presenting the club's own young musicians, and on the other hand, it also brings new audiences (parents, grandparents) to the concert.
For the kids, the performance should be one thing above all: a very motivating moment, because they can already play "with the grown-ups" in the same concert. It can be even more motivating if the youth wind orchestra presents one or two of the main themes from the concert program of the "grown-ups" in advance. In a simplified version, of course. The aim is for them to hear a fuller, longer version immediately afterwards. This should provide additional motivation to be able to play the whole piece in the concert of the "Greats" as soon as possible.
This compact version for Flex-4 instrumentation can be optimally combined with the edition AND. 00064 (Danube Waltz 5-minute version) in a concert. The audience will love it, after all, the simple D major triad of the 1st waltz has probably made it into the "Hall of Fame" of the most famous motifs in music history. So they hear this melody once from the "little ones" and immediately afterwards from the "greats". Better safe than sorry ;)
