Description:
Jean Daetwyler's Concerto for Wind Orchestra is one of the most important works of the 20th century wind orchestra repertoire. The Valais-born composer, who has deep ties to his homeland, develops a rich, lyrical and clearly structured musical language. Instead of a single soloist, the work focuses on the entire orchestra and pursues a collective concertante approach. The various registers enter into a subtle dialog, alternating between virtuoso passages, dramatic moments of tension and quieter, reflective sections. The influence of Swiss folk music, which was particularly close to the composer's heart, is subtly evident in individual themes and timbres. This demanding and expressive work represents an exciting challenge for the performers and offers the audience an intense and contrasting listening experience. It is a testament to Daetwyler's masterful orchestration and his ability to reinterpret the concerto form in an original way.
