Jean Daetwyler's Concerto for Wind Orchestra is one of the most important works of the 20th century wind orchestra repertoire. The Valais-born composer, who has deep ties to his homeland, develops a rich, lyrical and clearly structured musical language. Instead of a single soloist, the work focuses on the entire orchestra and pursues a collective concertante approach. The various registers enter into a subtle dialog, alternating between virtuoso passages, dramatic moments of tension and quieter, reflective sections.
