Description:
Following the great success of the Greek Folk Song Suite, which has endured for over twenty years, Franco Cesarini once again explores the long and rich tradition of Greek folk music. His Greek Folk Song Suite No. 2 features three dances that give their names to the three movements that make up the piece.
The first movement, Samiotissa," is a Kalamatianos, whose most striking feature is its irregular 7/8 time signature. It is a festive dance whose roots date back to antiquity and which is now considered the Greek national dance.
The second movement, Kato sto jalo," is a zeibekiko, a slow dance performed by a single man, which apparently originated with the warriors of ancient Anatolia.
The third and final movement, Chasaposerviko, is the fast section of the Hasapiko dance and is characterized by its more expansive form.
A new journey into Greek folk music that will delight musicians and audiences alike.
