Description:
Ottorino Respighi (1897-1936) set several of Percy Bysshe Shelley's poems, but only three were set for mezzo-soprano and orchestra: Arethusa in 1910, Il Tramonto in 1914, and La Sensitiva between 1914 and 1915. Of the three, Il Tramonto (The Sunset) was also written for voice and string quartet, and is heard in this version as often as in the chamber orchestral version. Jos van de Braak orchestrated this lyrical poem for mezzo soprano and wind ensemble.
