Claude Debussy once said that "Music begins where words are powerless to express." These words ring especially true when I am in the process of composing for the classical guitar. The six strings possess a unique ability to awaken my inner world; they seductively entice me to linger and dream and search for new music, as yet unknown, hidden by silence.
The seven pieces in this collection, gathered under the title From Stillness into Light represent a personal journey through sound. They were composed during moments of quiet contemplation, emerging from the stillness that exists before a single note is struck.
As you play through these pieces you will notice a gradual change of texture and mood.The music moves from expressive and introspective to bright and direct.
The pieces are written to be melodic and gentle in character. Rather than focusing on complex technical virtuosity, I invite you to slow down, to explore the beauty of the sound of your guitar and to enjoy the phrasing and the space between notes.
My hope is that my compositions will offer you a sanctuary of calm in a busy world.
