Description:
Rosa Gallica was written to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. In this work, France takes center stage, as much of the fighting took place there. With the title Rosa Gallica ("French Rose"), the composer wants to highlight the poetic image of a rose. The tribe stands for the past years – as brought by the First World War – and the thorns refer to the conflict and the pain that the victims had to endure. The rose itself stands for beauty – and symbolizes the possibility of a peaceful world. The play describes France from the end of the 19th century to its role at the centre of the First World War and beyond. This is a great and dramatic new work by Jacob de Haan.
