Description:
The sonata cycle by Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745), written in 1721/22, stands out from the vast number of trio sonatas composed between around 160 and 1760 as one of the most striking and at the same time most unusual creations. Extreme in its external dimensions and technical demands, Zelenka's sonatas combine ingenious formal solutions with captivating virtuosity. The first publication of these sonatas by Camillo Schoenbaum in the "Hortus Musicus" series three decades ago was a pioneering act that paved the way for today's Zelenka renaissance. However, new findings and evaluations of the source material made a new edition necessary in order to present a practical edition that also meets commercial requirements.
