Description:
A virtuosic work for bassoon, with violin, viola and cello. The music is great fun: lively, witty and energetic.
Christian Friedrich Gumlich remains a mysterious figure, a musician of the 19th century. His output includes an Andante and Rondo for bassoon and orchestra (published in 1826) and two quartets for bassoon and strings (published by Simrock in Bonn in 1822) of which this is the second. The present parts, edited by C. and F. Nex, are based on a copy of the earlier edition held in the British Library (shelf mark h. 1568.ww.(l.)). The first quartet is also available - see C887.
