Description:
In this concertino, the soloist alternatively plays the flute, the piccolo and the alto flute; the piccolo extends towards the high register the brightness and the velocity of the flute; the alto flute explores the expressive density of its lower register.
The piece is composed of 3 successive parts; the first one soars in the bright morning light. The second part sets a more intimate atmosphere evolving towards a secret pain. Softened colours. The initial atmosphere comes back in the third part in a play of chiaroscuro: the music pretends to ignore the previous episode, its shadows, its restlessness, and once again rises towards the bright light, as in a desperate gesture.
The title recalls this impossible quest: writing is always, in some way, an attempt to "cross the horizon".
(translation Philippe Do)
Details: flûte solo (also playing piccolo and flûte alto), trumpet, violin, viola, cello, double bass
