Description:
The lost work has survived in the form of arrangements by Bach himself [Harpsichord Concerto in E major (BWV 1053) and three cantata movements with obbligato organ from BWV 49 and 169]. The reconstruction is based on a scholarly method that, in principle, draws on Bach’s manuscript sources. All of the autographs of the arrangements have survived and lead to the conclusion that the original form must have been a viola concerto. This lively piece enriches the rather limited concerto repertoire with a true standard work.
