Description:
The Missa in g is the only surviving work in this genre by Johann Hugo von Wilderer, whose work as Kapellmeister at the Electoral Palatinate court, which had resided in Mannheim since 1720, was mainly devoted to opera. The three-part Kyrie, the through-composed Gloria and the partially obbligato instrumental movement show the influence of the early Neapolitan mass style. The Missa is an important testimony to the church music performed at the Electoral Palatinate court around 1700. Its music-historical significance also lies in the fact that it obviously served Bach as a source of inspiration for the Kyrie of the Mass in B minor, as can be seen, for example, in the arrangement of the Adagio introduction of Kyrie I in both works.
