Description:
Mr. Kapellmeister Mozart hereby announces the publication of three new first piano concertos to the highly respectable public. These 3 concertos, which can be performed with a large orchestra with wind instruments, as well as only a quattro, namely with 2 violins, 1 viola and violoncello, will only be published at the beginning of April this year (1783), ... It is clear from this advertisement that Mozart wanted to keep the accompaniment in the piano concertos K. 413-415 (and K. 449, as we know from a letter from Mozart to his father) flexible. In addition to the large orchestral instrumentation, a purely chamber music instrumentation with simply scored strings is also possible.
The edition takes this into account: on the one hand, it enables the works to be performed in the large orchestral sound, but on the other hand it enriches the attractive group of works of chamber music with piano.
