Description:
The Stabat Mater, composed in 1767, was Joseph Haydn's first sacred work, which he composed after taking up his post with Prince Esterházy in Eisenstadt. Like hardly any other of his sacred works, it soon spread in numerous copies and established Haydn's reputation as the leading vocal composer of his time. The present edition is based on three original copies of the parts which, due to their date of origin and the reliable transmission of the musical text, can claim to be particularly close to the non-preserved autograph. This great, moving Stabat Mater setting is thus made accessible anew in a modern scholarly edition. The complete performance material is available for purchase.
