Description:
It consists of a total of 20 character variations on an original theme, which were composed in 2022 for domestic use and are dedicated to my son Pavel. The movements, which are all kept compact with playing times of one to a maximum of four minutes, were originally conceived as independent pieces and are therefore not necessarily to be understood as a unified work. The rather unusual combination of clarinet and violoncello, for example, offers the possibility of reversing the roles or having both instruments play simultaneously in their lowest register. Like the technical design and the tunings and timbres offered in the individual pieces, the technical demands also differ; the spectrum ranges from beginner to advanced and is generally higher in the clarinet than in the cello. For this reason, the variations should be well suited for music lessons, as they demand interaction, musical understanding and technical mastery of the instrument at many levels. (Andreas Vitalis)
