Description:
Gossec wrote the 6 Symphonies opus 6 in 1762 while he was the music intendant for the Princes of Condé and Conti.
The third one in C minor is a 3-movement symphony, like the vast majority of the symphonies of that time: allegro, minuetto grazioso and fugato. The orchestration is typical of Haydn's early symphonies (the wind section limited to 2 oboes and 2 horns), but also belongs to the Sturm und Drang movement (storm and passion), a political, literary and musical movement, appearing in the late 1760s and characterized by a strong taste for minor keys and unexpected effects.
