Description:
Gabriel Fauré's Piano Trio, the composer's penultimate work, was completed between 1922 and 1923 and published in June 1923. The three-movement work clearly demonstrates Fauré's ability to combine a transparent texture with charming and elegant themes.
The composition has always posed problems for musicians, as there are numerous discrepancies between readings of the score and the individual parts. Without reliable information on the origin of the readings, an important prerequisite for an appropriate performance of the work was missing.
With the present edition, the score and parts have finally been brought into agreement, and at the same time the first ever scholarly-critical edition of the masterpiece is now available. All readings appear in the Critical Report in the corresponding volume of the Fauré Complete Edition.
