Description:
KOMM, SÜSSER TOD (Come, Sweet Death) was originally written for solo voice and basso continuo as part of the 69 SACRED SONGS AND ARIAS that J. S. Bach contributed to MUSICALISCHES GESANGBUCH by Georg Christian Schemelli (BWV 478), edited by Schemelli in 1736. Taking text by an anonymous author, Bach, by means of melody and harmony, expresses the desire for death and heaven. Among his most popular works, it has been adapted by several composers, including this orchestration by the famed Leopold Stokowski.
