Description:
It is one of the most frequently performed operas in the world: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute was written in 1791 for Emanuel Schikaneder's Freihaustheater in Vienna and combines fairytale magic elements with Masonic ideas. Mozart unfolds all his compositional skills in his last opera: from folksy melodies in Papageno's songs to Pamina's intimate arias, the depth and calm in Sarastro's song to the virtuoso coloratura of the Queen of the Night. The Magic Flute is a serious opera, a lively Singspiel and an enlightening didactic play all in one. In short, there is something for everyone, and that is probably what makes The Magic Flute so successful. The present chamber version by Urs Stäuble reduces the orchestra to a chamber ensemble without impairing the musical substance. On the contrary: the melodic lines and harmonic turns stand out particularly clearly due to the transparent instrumentation. The original trombone parts are taken over by the other winds, trumpet and timpani are scored ad libitum. This version of The Magic Flute is particularly suitable for smaller ensembles, university ensembles and concert performances with limited spatial possibilities. In addition to the score, piano reduction, orchestral parts and choral score are available.
