Description:
The genre of the pastorale héroïque is a legacy of Louis XIV's grand siècle and was rarely performed on stage in the 18th century.
However, Rameau returned to this genre with relish during his second creative phase: The more unconventional world of shepherds and nymphs allowed greater freedom dramatically, in terms of decor, but also in terms of musical virtuosity than the tragédie. Acanthe et Céphise (1751) demonstrates this masterfully; the ballets are also fully integrated into the plot.
This edition contains all the instrumental numbers of the popular pastorale in a new critical edition by Nathalie Berthon-Blivet.
