Description:
When you hear Mozart's wind concertos in the concert hall, it is, as the musicologist Alfred Einstein wrote, "as if doors and windows were suddenly opened and a fresh breeze fills the room". This is particularly true of Mozart's horn concertos, which represent a high point in the history of this genre that has never been reached again. They are undoubtedly among the most important in the repertoire: melodic, dramatic and virtuosic and are must-have pieces for every solo horn player.
Franz Giegling's editorial work on the concertos for the New Mozart Edition must be regarded as the most authoritative scholarly-critical edition available today, which naturally takes into account all surviving sources.
