Description:
Concertoni were particularly popular in Austria and northern Italy. These are symphonic works in which several instruments are used as solo instruments, similar to the later Sinfonia concertante. In this case, it is the two solo violins that are explicitly prescribed, but the two oboes, the viola and, in the second movement, the violoncello are soon also given solo roles: a delightful combination of modern symphony and old concerto grosso in the guise of Mozart's early classical period.
