La Mer', this central, thoroughly impressionistic work, was composed between 1903 and 1905, but Debussy refined the composition until 1913; the last surviving corrections from his pen date from this year.
The new scholarly-critical edition is based on several important sources that were previously inaccessible to musicologists, resulting in a large number of new readings and corrections.
In addition, there are numerous changes in detail, especially with regard to articulation and dynamics. For example, the new Bärenreiter Urtext edition contains the famous 'fanfare' in the third movement, which is clearly marked by small staves and brackets. This was deleted in the new edition of 1910, but was regarded as indispensable in performance practice by conductors such as Monteux, Münch, Mitropoulus and Ansermet. The edition reflects a performance tradition that is committed to the fanfare.
> New Urtext edition with numerous changes compared to other editions
> Consideration of important sources that were previously inaccessible
> Score and orchestral parts in large format
> Score and orchestral parts in a generous, clear layout
> Detailed preface (English/French/German)
