Description:
Mozart's "Missa in C" K. 258 cannot be clearly dated, but was probably composed around 1775/76. The mass is composed in the brevis form and was therefore also labeled as such on the cover of the anthology for the incipit. Outside of the church trio, however, there are other orchestral instruments which allow the work to be assigned to the brevis et solemnis type.
Mozart added two oboes to the orchestra - the parts are in Mozart's hand and are included with the primary copy. However, these two oboe parts never seem to have been passed on to a copyist, as no copy with the transcription of these two oboe parts has yet been discovered. Walter Senn has included the oboe parts in the present Urtext edition. Corrections and additions by the editor are typographically marked in the musical text.
