Description:
Mozart's magnificent, unfinished "Missa in c" K. 427 impresses not only because of its monumentality and musical beauty, but also because its incomplete transmission has fascinated scholars and practitioners for decades.
In collaboration with the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg, a new edition of the work is now available which reflects the current state of research and at the same time meets the needs of practitioners.
Scholarly edition, completion, reconstruction - all this is achieved in this standard-setting edition in order to come as close as possible to the work:
- "Kyrie" and "Gloria", which have survived in their entirety in the autograph, have been edited according to scholarly standards.
- The first two sections of the "Credo" have been carefully completed by the editor Ulrich Leisinger. In doing so, the editor draws on Mozart's models (including the aria "Deh vieni non tardar" from "Le nozze di Figaro") and pays attention to a stylistically appropriate and transparent sound.
- The sections of the "Credo", which are only incompletely or Ulrich Leisinger has reconstructed the movements "Sanctus" and "Benedictus" (with "Hosanna"), which have survived only incompletely or in secondary sources.
Parts of the work for which no sources in score form are known are not included in this edition. A detailed preface (German/English) rounds off the edition.
The first performance of Ulrich Leisinger's new edition took place in April 2019 under the direction of Kent Nagano (Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, ChorWerk Ruhr) at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. The first Salzburg performance based on this edition was given in August 2019 in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum with the Camerata Salzburg conducted by Andrew Manze, to rapturous applause from the audience and press.
The reconstruction by Helmut Eder based on the New Mozart Edition (BA 4846) is still available (score and parts for hire, piano reduction for sale).
