Description:
Pygmalion is the earliest one-act ballet, introduced by an overture, that was created for the Académie royale de musique. With this piece, Rameau turned to the form of the "petit opéra". From its first revival, Pygmalion was extremely successful - and remained so until 1781. Nathalie Berton- Blivet's new edition is mainly based on the performance material used at the Opéra between 1748 and 1781 and for the revival at the court in Fontainebleau in October 1754.
This later version - the last one that Rameau considered valid - is reconstructed in the complete edition of the "Opera omnia Rameau" (OOR), on the basis of which FranÇois Saint-Yves created the new piano reduction. The French-language edition also contains an introduction in French and English.
