Description:
The "Preludio" demonstrates Mabellini's imaginative melodic and harmonic inventiveness and his art of orchestration at a very early stage in his career. Fresh and carefree, the Preludio depicts the dawn of day. A comparison with Edvard Grieg's "Morgenstimmung" from "Peer Gynt" op. 23 is almost obvious: both pieces deal with the same theme, are of similar length and have similar instrumentation; but Grieg's incidental music was not composed until almost three decades later and was premiered on February 24, 1876.
