"On Tuesday, the fourth of November", wrote Mozart to his father on October 31 (the day after his arrival in Linz), "I will be giving a concert in the theater - and since I have no symphony with me, I am writing one as fast as I can, for it must be ready by then." Accordingly, this work was performed for the first time in the theater in Linz on November 4, 1783. A critical edition by Friedrich Schnapp based on the composer's manuscript is also available from the publisher. Instrumentation: 0.2.0.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set).
