Description:
I stood still and was a tree amid the Wood. /
Knowing the truth of things unseen before. (from: Ezra Pound, "The Tree")
Trees seem solid, firmly rooted in their place - there they stand and rustle with their leaves in the wind, each tree for itself. But that's not the case at all. Trees have underground connections to each other for miles, they exchange information about their roots, through fungal networks and with the scent they send through the air. Trees are getting older than all of us - the oldest tree in Europe has been alive for 10000 years! Trees communicate with each other, they feel touch, they can drink, smell, taste, they remember rain, sun, wind - and all this for thousands of years. Shouldn't we listen to them much more? (Dorothea Hofmann)
