Seemingly contradictory movements and characteristics are combined: melody versus chord, movement versus standstill, the seven-quarter time is interrupted by interjections in six quarters, a quiet "chorale" is superimposed by melodic fragments from a completely different sphere. But these contrasts never remain as opposites: almost imperceptibly, the ideas of one player begin to radiate onto the music of the partner, they attract each other "magnetically" to the point of exchanging individual motifs, to the transformation of one into the other, yes – even to the point of merging into one.
