The original print of the first volume of his "Pièces de clavecin" (1713), supervised by Couperin, was characterized by an exceptionally high notational quality. It contained the most precise indications for execution, for which Couperin created his own symbols. By preserving essential characteristics of the original printed image - such as the differentiation between round ties and straight legato slurs - in the modern engraving of the new Urtext edition, the special sound of this music is made accessible to today's performers in a fascinating way.

For the new edition, the editor meticulously analyzes for the first time the prints of the original print, some of which he has newly discovered, and their variants are documented in detail in the Critical Report. The Urtext edition also contains variant versions of some pieces as well as an anonymous work that can be attributed to Couperin.
A detailed preface, notes on historical performance practice and facsimile illustrations complete this indispensable edition for every lover and performer of French clavecin music.
