Description:
Johann Sebastian Bach provided a number of his cantatas with a purely instrumental introductory piece, a Sinfonia. Some of them are reworkings of his own works, others do not appear in the collection of instrumental works that has come down to us. Understandably, there is a desire to be able to make these ensemble pieces sound by a single performer. The organ offers good possibilities for this – in contrast to a piano reduction, for example: the bass can be assigned to the pedal, and the simultaneous use of two manuals allows intersecting voices to be represented appropriately.
