Description:
The new five-volume complete edition of César Franck's organ works is being produced in collaboration with the International César Franck Society. In addition to all known sources, it also includes previously unconsidered manuscripts. On the basis of careful text-critical comparisons, a reliable musical text is thus offered. Text variants, cases of doubt and editorial decisions are documented in a comprehensive critical report. In volume 1, edited by Christiane Strucken-Paland, all surviving early organ works as well as fragments and variants appear for the first time. The Fantasia in A major deserves special attention as Franck's greatest early work; it was not printed during his lifetime and was only rediscovered a few years ago. It already demonstrates Franck's masterly command of musical thematic development.
