Description:
Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911), organist at the Trinité in Paris and professor at the Conservatoire, was an educator. His eight organ sonatas are "classics" of Romantic French organ music and are part of the standard repertoire of organists.
The late organ sonatas in particular are based on the musical language of Beethoven, Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Schumann and pay homage to the Belle Époque.
The trilingual Urtext edition (French/English/German), which evaluates previously unexplored source material, is accompanied by a detailed preface, a critical report and a list of sources.
