Joan Cabanilles was the cathedral organist in Valencia and the outstanding personality of Spanish organ music in the second half of the 17th century. His brilliant and multifaceted musical language, rooted in the traditional Spanish sound world, has not yet been able to reach a wide audience outside the Iberian countries, although he is often attributed the attribute of a 'European musician'.
This three-volume Urtext edition aims to open up access to his most appealing works. To this end, all available sources from the libraries in Astorga, Barcelona, San Lorenzo de El Escoreal, Felanitx/Mallorca, Jaca and Montserrat have been consulted and re-evaluated. While Cabanille's works mainly comprise tientos, organ hymns and organ versets, the third and final volume contains 3 versos, 3 pasacalles, 2 gallardes, 2 tocatas and special forms such as the Paseos de tercer tono, the Diferencias de Folías and a Jácara.
