Description:
The "12 Pieces for Grandchildren" are an alternative version of the Children's Trios op. 58 for violin, cello and piano published by N. Simrock in Berlin in 1882 (new edition: E.D. 30803). The trio version contains two additional pieces, two others are considerably longer; the order of the pieces is also different. Contrary to the title, the manuscript of the piano version contains 13 pieces. The number VIII was given twice, possibly because Kirchner wanted to avoid the number 13. (Jürg Löffler)
