Description:
With his piano music, Christian Fink (1831–1911) is a typical representative of the 19th century. His Two Sonatinas op. 16 was composed by Fink, who came from Württemberg, in the environment of the Leipzig Conservatory and in the tradition of Schumann and Mendelssohn. His contemporaries took note of them as a welcome addition to the repertoire and foresaw a concrete use in the classroom. They are praised as "musically interesting" and "comfortably set". In places, Fink crosses the boundary of the sonata into the character pieces for piano that were popular at the time, for example with the movement designation Canzonetta. The forward-pushing gesture and the joyful virtuosity characterize the works of the young composer, which are published here for the first time in a modern critical edition.
