Description:
For the present piano quartet movements, the composer and publisher Heinrich Conrad Steup, a friend of Johann Wilhelm Wilms, took three piano rondos by the former and added parts for violin, viola and violoncello. The piano part remained unchanged from the original rondos, so that Steup was able to offer the three string parts separately as an "add-on" in his publishing house. This new edition combines the rondos (as published in the complete edition of Wilms' piano works: Favorit-Rondo - Polonaise - Favorit-Rondo No. 3) with Steup's string parts. The Wilms scholar Ernst A. Klusen, who encouraged and accompanied the publication of the new edition, attests to the arrangements' "wit, charm, elegance and a twinkle in the eye". (Christian Vitalis)
