Description:
Fauré composed his 5 Impromptus from 1881-1883 and 1906-1909 in two different creative phases. Inspired by Chopin, his brilliant early Impromptus op. 25, 31 and 34 resemble lyrical etudes that seem improvisatory but are formally symmetrical and have a coda. In contrast, the two Impromptus op. 91 and op. 102 are much bolder in terms of timbre, harmony and virtuosity.
The critical-practical Urtext edition edited by the musicologist and professor at the Sorbonne Jean-Pierre Bartoli is based on the musical text of the volume of the Œuvres complètes de Gabriel Fauré published in 2020. The edition is provided with a knowledgeable preface and a critical commentary. A reader-friendly engraved score with practical turning points and valuable notes on interpretation are a matter of course.
