Description:

Saint-Saëns' Etudes for the left hand were commissioned in 1912 by his pianist friend Caroline Montigny-Rémaury de Serres, who had suffered an injury to her right hand. Saint-Saëns originally titled the etudes printed in 1913 "Petites pièces" in the manuscript, and the cycle, which the composer himself described as "charming" and "amusing", lacks any of the rigor of an etude collection. The "Bourrée" in particular very quickly enjoyed great popularity.
The edition is based on the musical text of volume IV/3 of Camille Saint-Saëns' "Œuvres instrumentales complètes". A knowledgeable preface on genesis and interpretation (French/English/German), a critical commentary (English) and an elegant engraving make this collection of little gems the perfect addition to the repertoire.
