Description:
Piano music is of central importance in Fauré's oeuvre. He dedicated his "Ballade", composed in 1879, to his teacher Camille Saint-Saëns. It breaks with the epic form of the genre both through its lyrical character and in formal terms and adopts features of sonata form. In 1881, Fauré arranged his "Ballade" for piano and orchestra and premiered it in this expanded form.
