Description:
Who does not know Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconne, the final piece from his Partita in D minor for solo violin? Time and again, composers have been inspired to open up this exceptional work for other instruments as well. Perhaps the most famous arrangement is by Ferrucio Busoni. Without departing too far from Bach's original, he pursued the goal of transferring the virtuosity of the string movement to the conditions of the keyboard instrument. Thus Busoni created a piano movement that congenially exploits the possibilities of the modern grand piano. In addition to traditional sources, our Urtext edition evaluates with unprecedented meticulousness a piano roll on which Busoni himself can be heard. The fingering is provided by none other than Marc-André Hamelin.
